Chuter future with Leicester Tigers uncertain

Former England international hooker George Chuter looks almost certain to leave the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Leicester Tigers at the end of the current season, with his contract with the club coming to an end in the summer, and no talk of a new contract.

The 36 year old joined the ranks of the record winners of the Aviva Premiership almost 13 years back in 2000 and has been part of the greatest spell of the club, but he stated that talks over a new contract are yet to get underway.

Local English media have also speculated that the 35 year old will move from the Welford Club, where he has spent almost his entire professional career, to the Sale Sharks in the summer. Although Richard Cockerill, the Director of Rugby of the Leicester Tigers has not ruled out offering the veteran player a new short term contract at the club, he hinted that this season might be the last for the former England man at Welford Road.

I’ve just stuck my Unibet bonus bet on Chuter being a Sale Sharks player next season, at odds of 4/1.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, Cockerill stated that George has plenty of experience, both at domestic and international level and he will offer a lot to any club. He went on to state that it is however, up to the player to decide whether it will be with The Tigers over the short term or to some other club where he will get the chance to prolong his career as well as a possible coaching gig.

George Chuter has won 24 caps for England at international level and he is also the most capped player in the Aviva Premiership with 259, with all of those appearances coming for his beloved Leicester Tigers where he has won both trophies and a lot of hearts amongst the fans of the club.
